Patellofemoral Joint Chondral Defects Treated With Third Generation Matrix Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation on Porcine Collagen Membrane: Minimum 2-year Follow-up
By G.M. Palhares, J. Retzky, F. Coxe and 3 others.
Abstract
Objective
To evaluate patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), complications, and failure rates following matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation (MACI) for patellofemoral chondral defects with a minimum 2-year follow-up.
Methods
A retrospective review was performed on patients who underwent MACI for focal patellofemoral chondral defects. PROMs included the IKDC, Kujala, and VR-12 scores, collected preoperatively and at a minimum of 2 years postoperatively. The proportion of patients achieving the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) was calculated. Failure was defined as (1) graft failure on follow-up MRI or second-look arthroscopy, (2) revision MACI or additional cartilage procedure, or (3) conversion to arthroplasty. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was performed.
