A scoping review of community-based interventions for the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS
By Narguess Abdipour and Nastaran Keshavarz Mohammadi.
Abstract
Objective(s): Despite the implementation of the global 95-95-95 strategy to control the HIV epidemic, achieving these targets—particularly in Iran—remains challenging. International health promotion conferences have emphasized strengthening community action as a key strategy to realize the goal of “health for all.” This study aimed to identify and analyze community-based interventions for HIV prevention and control by conducting a scoping review of relevant literature.
Methods
This study is a scoping review conducted using the five-step framework proposed by Arksey and O’Malley. A systematic search was carried out in PubMed and Google Scholar, focusing on English-language studies published between 2019 and 2024. Only full-text studies with experimental or quasi-experimental designs that evaluated the effectiveness of a community-based intervention in HIV prevention or control were included. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the RoB2 tool for individually randomized trials and the RoB2 CRT tool for cluster randomized trials. Community participation was evaluated using the IAP2 Public Participation Spectrum.
