Résumé
Objectives
This study aimed to compare plasma spermine and spermidine concentrations in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), patients with exfoliation glaucoma (EG), and healthy individuals, and to explore their potential association with disease severity.
Materials and methods
This prospective case-control study was conducted at a tertiary referral center and included patients with an established diagnosis of POAG or EG for more than two years. The control group consisted of age- and sex-matched healthy individuals. Participants with predefined systemic comorbidities or ocular conditions that could potentially confound the study findings were excluded. Plasma concentrations of spermine and spermidine were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Glaucoma severity was assessed using the modified Hodapp-Parrish-Anderson glaucoma staging system.
