Résumé
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic, multisystem autoimmune disease that may present with oral manifestations requiring individualized dental care. This study aims to report the use of low-level laser therapy as an adjunctive therapeutic approach for oral alterations in a patient with SLE, describing the treatment provided and the clinical course. This case report describes a 27-year-old female patient with a medically confirmed diagnosis of SLE who presented with an erythematous lesion on the hard palate, gingival recession, root exposure, periodontal involvement, and painful symptoms interfering with eating. Treatment consisted of periodontal scaling and root polishing combined with the application of a gallium aluminum arsenide (GaAlAs) laser at a wavelength of 790 nm, a power output of 30 mW, an application time of 2 minutes and 20 seconds per point, and a reported energy density of 4 J/cm². The patient was reassessed on days 3, 7, and 30 following treatment, with reported regression of the oral alterations and favorable clinical evolution. This follow-up documents the combined use of photobiomodulation and periodontal treatment in a patient with SLE. However, the simultaneous interventions and single-case design prevent the observed regression from being attributed exclusively to laser therapy. These findings emphasize the importance of individualized dental management and highlight the need for comparative studies to investigate the specific efficacy of this therapeutic modality.
