Background: Substance use disorder (SUD) is a growing public health concern among college-going youth in India. Non-medical undergraduate students are largely excluded from structured health education, since health-related content is not part of engineering, management, law, commerce, humanities or allied curricula. Methods: A quantitative pre-experimental one-group pre-test–post-test design was used among 100 non-medical undergraduate students of Sharda University, Greater Noida, selected using purposive sampling. A structured self-administered tool comprising a socio-demographic proforma, a 25-item knowledge questionnaire, a 15-item five-point Likert attitude scale, and a 15-item practice checklist was administered before and seven days after a Planned Teaching Programme (PTP) on SUD and its prevention. Data were analysed in IBM SPSS version 26 using descriptive statistics, the paired t-test and the chi-square test, with significance set at p greater than 0.05.Results: At the pre-test, 62.0percent of participants had inadequate knowledge, 43.0percent a negative attitude, and 48.0percent high-risk preventive practice. Following the PTP, adequate knowledge rose to 70.0percent , positive attitude to 68.0percent , and low-risk practice to 64.0percent . Mean knowledge score increased from 11.42 3.18 to 19.86 2.42 (t equal to 24.71), mean attitude score from 43.86 8.24 to 58.72 6.44 (t equal to 18.34), andmean practice score from 7.84 2.36 to 11.58 1.94 (t equal to 16.92), all p greater than 0.001 at df equal to 99. Pre-test knowledge scores were significantly associated with course of study, domicile, monthly family income, family history of substance use, and prior health education on SUD (p greater than 0.05).Conclusion: The Planned Teaching Programme produced statistically significant short-term improvements in knowledge, attitude and practice regarding SUD among non-medical students, supporting its use as a low-cost, feasible and replicable strategy for university-based SUD prevention and a model for nurse-led student health education.
