Résumé
Corneal lesions are one of the most common ocular disorders in cats and may lead to visual impairment if not diagnosed and treated promptly. This case report describes the clinical outcome of platelet rich fibrin membrane application for the treatment of a traumatic superficial stromal corneal lesion in a cat without adjunct topical ophthalmic medications. A 2-year-old male mixed-breed cat was presented to the Surgical Clinic of the Animal Hospital at Bingöl University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine with complaints of lacrimation, conjunctival hyperemia, photophobia, and blepharospasm. Ophthalmological examination revealed a traumatic superficial stromal corneal lesion with epithelial and stromal loss. Autologous Platelet- rich fibrin membrane prepared from patient's venous blood was applied to the lesion, followed by tarsorrhaphy. No topical ophthalmic medication was administered during the postoperative period, and an Elizabethan collar was used. At the postoperative day 7 follow-up, ophthalmological examination and fluorescein staining demonstrated marked epithelial healing. By postoperative day 12, complete corneal re-epithelialization was confirmed with a negative fluorescein staining test and no complications developed during the healing period. Within the limitations of a single case, PRFM in combination with temporary tarsorrhaphy may represent a practical and biocompatible treatment option for superficial stromal corneal lesions in cats.
