Abstract
Purpose
This study evaluated the efficacy of 2 vibrotactile devices, Buzzy® and VibradentTM, in reducing pain and anxiety during local anesthesia (LA) administration for dental extractions in children.
Methods
The study included 126 children aged 7 to 10 years, divided into 3 groups (N=42 each): Group 1 (conventional syringe), Group 2 (Vibradent TM), and Group 3 (Buzzy®). Pain was assessed using the Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale (WBFPS), Face-Legs-Activity-Cry-Consolability scale (FLACC), and Sound-Eye-Motor scale (SEM) at baseline (T0), needle insertion (Tn), and end of local anesthesia administration (Te). Anxiety was measured through the Facial-Image-Scale (FIS) and heart rate. Salivary cortisol was evaluated at T0 and T20 (20 minutes after needle insertion) to assess physiological stress. Parent and child satisfaction were also recorded.
